CELEBRATING THE CIIC

Conclusions of its meeting in Görlitz

September 25-26, 2018

The CIIC Members wish to express their gratitude to the city of Görlitz and its authorities for their worm welcome and extraordinary help which has made it possible to hold this meeting of the ICOMOS Comité Internacional de Itinerarios Culturales (CIIC).

The Operational Guidelines will be reviewed to introduce and clarify the differences of a Cultural Route with respect to Cultural Landscapes and Serial Nominations.

Experiences of Cultural Routes in traditional and alternative ways can be attractive to various groups of people with wide areas of interest including emerging professionals to promote living Cultural Routes in the region.

All the members agreed that the best option to secure a place for Historic Roads within ICOMOS will be to create a Sub-Committee of the CIIC specially devoted to the Historic Roads.

Sensitiveness of young people, students and children is very important for promoting Cultural Routes and it shall be useful to promote books and other publications in accordance with their age as well raising this idea in order to promote this initiative from national committees and partners.

Starting from research to identify the existence of a real cultural route, according to the terms that have been worked and described by the ICOMOS CIIC until now, we need to take a step towards in order to show in a simple and creative way its main characteristics as well as to make more accessible the understanding of the concept of cultural routes and historic roads.

Communication across different generations of heritage professionals has shown to generate positive and fruitful exchanges. The knowledge of expert professionals together the energy and dynamism of young members can determine a more holistic approach to actions in favor of Cultural Heritage and Cultural Routes.

The digital communications tools are fundamental in the networking society. The identity is a fundamental subject and has to be included in the net. It is important to work in “net” as well as to promote the knowledge of Cultural Routes and Historic Roads. We have to communicate our work in different social media.

It is important the representation of the CIIC in the Emerging Professional Working Group (EPWG) in order to develop knowledge and activities with the professionals thorough a network with different proposals to approach the youth to heritage.
